SUMMARY:

Our client, Apex Foods Pty Ltd, is a leading Melbourne-based importer and wholesaler of perishables, including betel leaves, fruits, spices, groceries, and cultural decorative products. They are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to help drive the company’s expansion into new markets. Having seen steady growth in recent years, Apex Foods is now looking to expand operations into New South Wales and Queensland, while increasing its product range to meet the demands of a growing market.

The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

- Identify business opportunities in Victoria, NSW, and Queensland, and develop strategies to expand Apex Foods' market presence.
- Develop and implement sales and marketing strategies to grow the company’s customer base and product offerings.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating favourable terms and sourcing new products.
- Stay informed about market trends, customer preferences, and competitor activities, and use this information to guide business decisions.
- Analyse pricing proposals, financial reports, and market data to maintain competitive positioning.
- Attend trade shows, conferences, and meetings to build a network of contacts and stay updated on industry trends.
- Assist with recruitment, training, and management of sales staff to support business growth.
- Collaborate with the Managing Director to set sales objectives, forecast sales, and develop action plans for expansion.

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:

- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in sales and marketing, ideally in perishables, groceries, or cultural decorative products.
- Proven track record in business development, market expansion, and supplier management.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and develop a sales team.
- Excellent negotiation, networking, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to analyse financial reports, market trends, and pricing strategies to inform decision-making.
- Willingness to undertake frequent interstate and occasional overseas travel as required.
