The Opportunity
Our Australian Manufacturing business is looking for a Senior Energy and Carbon Specialist in our Energy and Carbon team based in Port Kembla or Mascot. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have a number of major manufacturing sites that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

Our steel manufacturing facilities provide a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of how we manage emissions and utilise energy as we transition into new technologies. Being seen as a subject matter expert, you’ll be providing guidance on future energy and carbon opportunities to facilitate alignment with our vision for the future.
What Will You Do?
In this critical role with profile to senior leaders and decision makers, your insights and recommendations will have direct impact on operational and sustainability strategies. You will be:
- providing strategic review, interpretation and synthesis of existing and emerging carbon and energy policy, legislation and requirements with a lens on key relevance to BlueScope’s manufacturing operations
- undertaking modelling and data analysis to deliver valuable insights, advancing our climate action and decarbonisation targets
- leading and supporting the strategy development and ongoing management of our carbon offset portfolio within our Australian business
- developing your internal networks– enhancing the quality of your insights and the depth of your influence
More About You
Perhaps you’ve spent time in industry and gained exposure to energy and carbon, or maybe you are someone passionate about leveraging your expertise in support of energy efficient manufacturing or exploration of new technologies? Either way, you’ll have an enthusiasm for the technical aspects of your work and an analytical approach. As a fierce advocate for BlueScope. you’ll be heavily invested in our success. You’ll bring:
- tertiary/post graduate qualifications in engineering, commerce/economics, science, or other relevant disciplines
- experience in legislation review and direct application into strategy and policy advocacy
- superior communications skills - building rapport with stakeholders across functions and at all levels of the organisation
- an ability to balance the details with the big picture, with a bias to ‘getting things done’
- a growth mindset – displaying a natural curiosity and a willingness to embrace challenges
