Programmed, in partnership with Tweed Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for a 1 st Year New Entrant, Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical apprentice commencing January 2025.

Programmed are seeking motivated applicants that have a great eye for detail, are mechanically minded with a strong commitment to safety, have a passion for the mechanical industry and have the drive to commit to a 4-year apprenticeship.
As a full-time Apprentice, you may be eligible to receive a total of $5,000 in Government incentives under the Australian Apprenticeships Incentive System.
Working as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Apprentice at Tweed Shire Council may see you completing the following tasks:

Assist tradespersons to carry out mechanical maintenance and servicing of Council's fleet, plant and equipment.
Repair transmissions in manual and automatic transport fleets.
Remove and install heavy vehicle engine assemblies in the workshop.
Undertake a number of diagnostic processes associated with the vehicles and/ or engines.
Test, charge and replace batteries and other electrical components.
Diagnose and repair heavy vehicle emission control systems.
Carry out road worthy assessments for the registration of vehicles and management of fleet records.
Service, clean and lubricate assembled equipment.
Inspect machinery regularly and make any adjustments or repairs needed by removing worn or damaged parts to install replacements.
Work as a team member.
Attend safety Toolbox Talks, contribute to the team's safety.

To be considered you must have the following:

Completed year 10 education.
Competent numeracy and literacy skills.
Current Drivers Licence and reliable transport.
Positive attitude.
General Construction Induction (White Card) or ability to obtain one.
Commitment to become trade qualified.
Demonstrated capacity to work as a team member.
Demonstrated capacity to work safely.

Work Location:
The position can be directed to work anywhere within the Tweed Shire and is currently based out of the Murwillumbah Depot.
TAFE requirements:
TAFE is completed in blocks at Tamworth TAFE . The Apprentice will be required to travel to attend 1 week blocks every 6 weeks. Travel, accommodation and meals reimbursed to the apprentice through government funding (VTAS) and Programmed.
