Werner Engineering is locally owned Mackay-based machining and fabrication workshop, specialising the manufacture and repair of parts for the mining, transport, sugar, agricultural and local industries

Werner Engineering is looking for FITTER/MACHINIST to join their team of professionals on a full time and permanent basis.

To be considered for the role you will possess the following skills, experience, and attributes:
Trade qualified Fitter/Machinist
Forklift High Risk Ticket / Overhead crane / Dogging certificate highly regarded
Proven work experience in Fitting/Machining or similar role in the last 2 years
Previous experience in a workshop environment and understanding of Mining / Agricultural equipment and processes
Good technical background and ability to handle “one off’s” with attention to detail
Demonstrated experience in manual machining
A good working knowledge of drills, lathes and mills

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to: Fitter/Machinist

General machining including use of: Small Centre Lathes, Milling Machines, Radial Drills.
Keep abreast of technological changes
General fitting including the use of: Gear reduction Units of all size and type, Fluid Couplings and Power Transmission Devices, Boiler Feed Pumps and other Critical Process Pumps, Hydraulic Cylinders, Pump Impeller Rotating Assemblies, Conveying, Crushing and Stockpiling / Reclaiming Equipment, Large Components of Drag Lines and Mining Equipment and Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems
Application of fine tolerances to machined surfaces when fitting bearings, gearing, seals etc. to shafts and hubs with respect to heating/freezing techniques and the like
Sketch and accurately measure mechanical components from Gearboxes, Pumps and other Drive Equipment
Inspect, analyze and record critical mechanical information during the process of undertaking mechanical refurbishment work; this critical information would include the interpretations of wear and tear, mechanical damage to Gears, Shafts, Housing etc. recording of end floats, preloads, gear train, backlashes, tooth contacts and other at the start and completion of every refurbishment
Perform mechanical repairs, manufacture components and request equipment, materials and consumables as required within limits of authority
Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading mechanical drawings
