The Direct Care Worker position works with clients and their carers to achieve their identified goals, enhance independence, optimise quality of life and help them to continue to live their lives the way they choose.

The role provides support to clients in the areas of domestic assistance, respite care, personal care, in a respectful, flexible, and client-centred manner.  

Direct Care Workers assist clients within their homes and in the community and will be working both autonomously and in a team environment.

We deliver services under the Home and Community Care Program for Younger People (HACC PYP), Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), and Home Care Package (HCP) Services to assist eligible clients.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Direct Care Work: This role involves performing various tasks, often related to assisting individuals in their homes. This includes:
  • Household tasks such as assisting with light house cleaning, laundry, mopping, vacuuming, and maintaining a safe living environment.
  • Providing Transport support such as assisting with shopping or attending appointments.
  • Personal Care such as helping with hygiene support, bathing and dressing.
  • Light Meal Preparation.
  • Supporting independence and safety including monitoring the wellbeing of clients.
  • Proving Respite care within the community or in the home, allowing caregivers to take a break from their caring responsibilities.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • Knowledge of the issues confronting people who are aged and/or people with disabilities in their home or in the community.
  • Ability to foster positive and respectful relationships with clients, respecting cultural values, beliefs and individual choices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with clients and their families and be responsive to their needs.
  • Good communication skills and ability to gain the confidence of clients.
  • Excellent customer service skills where the clients’ best interests are the focus.
  • Ability to adapt and respond effectively to the evolving needs of clients.

Required Certifications & Qualifications:

  • Completion of Certificate III in Individual Support (previously Aged Care or HACC)
  • Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate or wiling to obtain.
  • Current full Australian Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable, registered, comprehensively insured vehicle.
