Toby, a seasoned horseman with training under renowned figures like Neville Begg and Peter Snowden, has been steadily increasing his number of winners since relocating to the Gold Coast in 2011. The company operates modern stables in Bundall, near the Gold Coast Turf Club, providing ideal conditions for preparing racehorses.
Daily Tasks Include:
• Developing and overseeing structured training plans to enhance horses' endurance, agility, and overall fitness.
• Training horses to respond to verbal and physical cues and correcting unwanted behaviours.
• Training horses to accept jockeys and collaborating closely with jockeys to provide insights into horse temperament and behavior to optimize race-day outcomes.
• Preparing horses for races by fine-tuning their skills, boosting their physical condition, and planning strategies to maximize performance.
• Provide other equine comprehensive care to ensure proper hygiene by regularly cleaning, brushing, grooming coats, sanitizing their living space, maintaining a clean and sanitary environment, and implementing a safe exercise routine.
• Creating and monitoring feeding programs that meet the specific dietary needs of each horse for optimal health and performance.
• Performing routine health evaluations, identifying signs of discomfort, injury, or disease, and taking prompt action when needed.
• Enforcing safety standards within the workplace to ensure a secure environment for both horses and staff by adhering to all protocols.
Requirements
• Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent international qualification in veterinary science or in the relevant field.
• At least two years of work experience in working in the veterinary, horse training, or related field.
• Extensive experience in training, pre-training, breaking, and handling thoroughbred racehorses, particularly young ones, and proven understanding of equine health, safety, and the safe operation of all relevant equipment and personal protective gear are preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication skills to take instruction, provide information, and prepare basic reports.
• Ability to work independently or in a team, with proven management experience for leadership roles.
Annual Salary: AUD $75,000 - $80,000 + Superannuation (38 hours per week)
