The Irrigation Manager is a key member of the Rombola Family Farms production team. This role is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of all irrigation infrastructure including scheduled watering, ensuring that all programs are completed on time. You will also be responsible for the coordination of all irrigation infrastructure servicing, repairs and maintenance and troubleshooting and coordinating all key maintenance aspects of the irrigation system.
Key operational accountabilities include:
• Assist in the designing of irrigation systems and monitoring programs.
• Ensure the efficient running of the irrigation system. Seeking efficiencies and continual improvement in the water.
• Work with Grower and Agronomist to monitoring plant growth, soil moisture, nutrition, and health. Provide input to irrigation scheduling.
• Maintain accurate irrigation records.
• Determine water quality and availability.
• Select appropriate irrigation technologies paying regard to site and crop requirements and effective water management.
• Monitor total irrigation system pumps and maintenance. Troubleshooting irrigation issues and conduct maintenance and repairs.
• Maintain adherence to the safe and correct storage, handling, mixing and transportation of chemicals and fertilisers ensuring attention to correct dosages.
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Works closely with the production team, particularly the grower & agronomist, to ensure agreed production practices and systems are delivering the desired result.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
To be successful in the role you will possess the following:
• Relevant bachelor’s degree or higher with at least two years related experience in the field.
• Ability to install, operate, troubleshoot, and repair manual and/or computerized irrigation systems.
• Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
• Ability to perform irrigation tasks such as operate timers, clocks, and controls for sprinklers.
• Knowledge of manual and/or computerized irrigation systems.
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Initiative and integrity.
• Team player.
• Flexibility in hours worked to achieve operational targets.
• A current driver’s licence.
