Our client, Western Sydney Formwork, is currently seeking a Carpenter to join their team on a full-time basis. Located in North Rocks, New South Wales. The Carpenter must have strong carpentry skills, including the ability to construct frameworks and perform general woodwork tasks. This profession requires a high level of ability, meticulous attention to detail, and the motivation to complete mechanical servicing jobs quickly and effectively.
The Carpenter will collaborate closely with other team members to ensure the highest quality repair and maintenance services, ultimately enhancing overall client satisfaction and workshop efficiency.
The annual salary for the role is $102,220 plus superannuation.
General Duties
• Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.
• Verify accuracy and trueness of structure, using plumb bob and level.
• Study the scope of works, specifications, sketches and/or building plans to prepare the project layout and determine the dimensions and materials required.
• Manage the workload and time of at least one assistant – or more as required – to ensure no idle time for the carpenter or the assistant(s).
• Report incidents, issues and problems to the supervisor or site foreman for resolution.
• Liaise with co-workers to ensure the work is done in a professional and timely manner.
Specific Functions
• Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using a ruler, pencil, chalk line, chalk and marking gauge.
• Shape and cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines or power saw.
• Assemble and fasten materials to make framework or props, using hand tools, timber, screws, nails, dowel pins, etc.
• Use power tools such as electric saw and nail guns efficiently and with the utmost precaution.
• Ensure all electric equipment is professionally tagged and dated accurately before use.
• Install structures and fixtures using prefabricated materials such as Trio, RMD & Gridflex.
• Assemble the formwork for stairs, slabs, decks, edge boards, step-downs, upturns, lifts, kerbs, driveways, walls, columns, bridges, etc.
• Assess and order required materials proactively for the work to continue without interruption, and request removal of materials no longer required on the job.
• Respond to client queries when and if prompted.
• Maintain records, document actions and present written progress reports.
• Work with and/or remove hazardous material.
• Must have own hand tools. The company provides power tools and nails.
• Assist with steel fixing when/if required.
• Liaise with our Surveyor to ensure the work is done correctly as marked.
Key Accountabilities
The Formwork Carpenter is accountable for:
• All work performed by himself and his team.
• Any flaws in the works produced by him or his team and will have to justify the presence of flaws in works performed.
• The safety of the work area and the crew.
• The accuracy and quality of his work and that done by his team.
Qualifications
The minimum set of skills required for this position are as follows:
• Minimum of one to two (1-2) years in a similar position.
• Must have at least Certificate III in Carpentry.
• Must have strong work ethic and be a self-starter.
• Must be able to follow guidelines for safety.
• Detail-oriented, professional attitude, diligent and reliable.
• Strong time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritise work.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to interact with workers, tradies, vendors and subcontractors professionally.
• Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
• Ability to work under pressure.
