The Role
This is a full time role with an annual salary set between $73,500 to $76,500 depending on experience plus superannuation.
The Responsibilities
Some tasks may include
Review detailed plans and specifications to understand the tiling project's requirements
Measure and mark the surfaces to lay out the work accurately, ensuring that the tile arrangement will be as per the design and fit the space perfectly
Prepare wall and floor surfaces for tiling by removing any old tiles, grout, and adhesive
Fill in any holes and cracks to ensure a smooth, clean base for the new tiles
Spread adhesive evenly on prepared surfaces using the appropriate tools and techniques
Place tiles on the adhesive-covered surfaces, carefully aligning them according to the layout plan
Position the tiles correctly and ensuring they are level and evenly spaced
Utilize tile-cutting tools to precisely cut and shape tiles as needed to fit edges, corners, and around obstacles like fittings and pipes, ensuring a professional finish
Pay meticulous attention to the alignment and spacing of tiles
Use spacers as necessary to maintain uniform gaps between tiles, achieving a neat and orderly appearance
Fill the spaces between tiles with grout, selecting the right colour and type of grout for the project
Apply it evenly and remove any excess to prevent a messy finish
After the grout has set, clean the tiled surface thoroughly
Removing any excess grout from the tile surface without damaging the grout lines, to leave a clean, sharp finish
Apply waterproofing systems where necessary, especially in wet areas like bathrooms and kitchens
For certain projects, lay floors of granolithic, terrazzo, cement, or similar composition, requiring specific skills and knowledge of materials
Lay coloured tiles in patterns to create intricate mosaics as per design specifications
Continuously check the quality of work at various stages of the project, ensuring that the installation meets the design specifications and industry standards
Provide clients with advice on tile selection, design options, and maintenance, ensuring their needs are met and guiding them through the decision-making process
Offer guidance on how to maintain and care for the tiles post-installation
Provide repair services if necessary, ensuring the longevity and beauty of the tiled surfaces
The Requirements:
Certificate III trade qualification in tiling or a related field.
Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in wall and floor tiling, demonstrating a range of skills from basic tile installation to complex decorative work.
Minimum of 2 years of proven experience with different types of tiles (ceramic, porcelain, stone, mosaic) and tiling techniques.
At least 2 years of experience gained within a professional capacity.
Proficient in reading and interpreting architectural drawings and specifications.
Skilled in the use of tiling tools and equipment, including tile cutters, trowels, and levelling devices.
Knowledge of surface preparation techniques, adhesive and grout application, and the ability to perform intricate cuts and measurements.
Understanding of waterproofing methods and materials.
Familiarity with building codes and safety regulations related to tiling and construction work.
Ability to work independently
Have at least 2 contactable work referees
