This newly created role will be responsible for writing, commissioning and co-ordinating travel content across the Financial Review. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of the travel industry, especially at the high end. You will have excellent writing skills as well as experience in commissioning and editing copy.
Most importantly, you will have a vision for growing the Financial Review’s travel franchise, evolving your content strategy according to insights from what our subscribers are reading, and using your industry contacts to pre-empt trends. While this is an editorial role, you will work closely with our commercial team to identify opportunities for our business.
As our senior travel writer you will report to the editor of AFR Magazine whilst working alongside the Editor of Life & Leisure and the Deputy Editor (News). Travel is a key growth area for the Financial Review. You will have the skills, experience and drive to take our travel coverage to the next level.
Key responsibilities:
- Oversee travel and tourism content across the Financial Review including afr.com, the daily newspaper, Life & Leisure, AFR Magazine and Fin Magazine.
- Develop a strategy to build the Financial Review’s travel franchise, including travel specials in Life & Leisure and our aviation title, High Flyer. This strategy will aim to increase engagement among subscribers and boost advertising revenue.
- Represent the Financial Review at travel industry events.
- Regularly write on travel news as well as travel features.
- Coordinate travel and press trips for staff writers and external contributors, in collaboration with relevant editors.
- Edit copy, source photos and ensure the smooth production of travel content, in collaboration with editors and the production editor of magazines.
