Salary: $82,000 plus 11.5% superannuation

Our client, Watt Export Unit Trust trading as Watt Export Pty Limited is a leading Australian exporter of fresh fruit and vegetables committed to providing high-quality produce to retailers, restaurants, and food service providers.
Watt Export Pty Limited prides on maintaining exceptional standards of freshness and customer satisfaction. The client is looking to fill a full-time permanent position for a qualified and skilled Fruit and Vegetable Inspector to join the team and drive continuous improvement across the fruit and vegetable business operations. The Fruit and Vegetable Inspector will ensure that produce meets the required standards of hygiene and quality.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fresh produce inspection, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for quality control. You will be responsible for ensuring that required standards of hygiene are observed at storage, processing and packing facilities and in transport vehicles.
You will know about the produce industry and be able to educate, advising and providing information on Fruit and Vegetable inspection standards. You will also contribute across the business and to our long-term planning with your professional expertise and advice.
Minimum Requirements:
You’ll hold AQF associate degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma (ANZSCO Skill Level 2). At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification.
What you will be responsible for:
• Inspect fruits and vegetables upon arrival from suppliers, ensuring they meet the company's quality standards for size, ripeness, color, appearance, and overall condition.
• Perform quality checks during sorting, grading, packaging, and loading for export and wholesale distribution.
• Identify and separate defective, damaged, or substandard produce and recommend appropriate actions for disposal or downgrading.
• Monitor storage conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.) to ensure the optimal preservation of fresh produce.
• Ensure compliance with national and international quality regulations, food safety standards, and export guidelines.
• Collaborate with suppliers and farmers to provide feedback on quality issues and help implement corrective actions.
• Keep accurate records of inspections, including detailed reports on product quality, defects, and compliance issues.
• Work closely with the operations, warehouse, and export teams to coordinate product movement and ensure quality standards are maintained throughout the supply chain.
• Conduct random inspections during transport and handling to ensure produce quality is preserved.
• Stay updated on market trends and quality standards for fresh produce, particularly for international export.
• Keeping records of vegetables and fruits quality levels to ensure compliance with client and contractual specification
• Commit to following all Health & Safety policies & procedures 100%
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, findings, and actions taken.
Skills, experience, and attributes:
• Previous experience in quality control, product inspection, or a similar role within the fresh produce industry (fruit and vegetable inspection is highly preferred).
• Strong knowledge of quality standards and grading systems for fruits and vegetables.
• Familiarity with food safety regulations and quality certifications (e.g., HACCP, SQF).
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify subtle differences in product quality.
• Good communication skills, with the ability to provide clear feedback to suppliers and team members.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic computer skills for reporting and record-keeping.
• Physical stamina for inspecting produce in warehouse and storage environments.
