Dongara Marine has a unique opportunity for a qualified Shipwright to take up an exciting number of tasks required to build new vessels, with a number of contracts, including two new cray boats, numerous smaller boats between 6m to 12m, a research vessel and 3 pilot boats well into 2026. We have recently relocated to newly established sheds situated at the Geraldton Fisherman’s Wharf
The role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Shipwright/Carpenter/Cabinet Maker to join our team. You will be responsible for fit outs of accommodation and wheelhouse areas of a vessel. You will have prior experience in glazing, interior and exterior fit out. Preparing of ship parts which involves erection, alignment and securing of ship sections
Tasks: Your key tasks will consist of but not limited to:
Marine industry experience,
Reading drawings and specifications to ascertain materials required, ordering these materials and preparing layouts
Cutting, nailing, shaping and assembling materials
Use of CNC Router to cut materials from templates
Repair existing fittings
Work with plastic laminates, Perspex and metals
Ensuring that lifting, standing and launching works are completed safely and in line with expected time constraints.
All aspects of shipwright repairs and constructions
Ability to liaise with all levels of an organisation and awareness of WHS&E standards.
Assembling shells of boats and erecting hull sections
May make hull molds and fabricate and repair vessels using materials such as aluminum, wood, glass, reinforced plastics, carbon fibre and fibreglass
Requirements
Unrestricted Australian Working Rights
Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Carpenter/Cabinet Maker
Required relevant tools
Strong attention to detail
Excellent communication and problem-solving ability
Current driver’s license
