PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Makes, rebuilds and repairs upholstered articles such as chairs, sofas, beds and mattresses..
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Consult with customers to discuss upholstery fabric, style, and color preferences.
Present material samples and recommend suitable options for various projects, including indoor and outdoor applications, as well as domestic and commercial furniture.
Remove old fabrics, padding, springs, webbing, and fittings from furniture.
Assess the condition of furniture frames, and repair or replace wooden and metal components as needed.
Use tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and power tools for these tasks.
Measure, cut, and adjust upholstery materials according to design specifications.
Use patterns to cut new materials, adjusting for any shrinkage in old fabric.
Select and cut appropriate padding materials, applying them with spray glue to ensure a secure fit.
Construct wooden structures for restaurant booth seating as directed, and decide on the suitable thickness of marine plywood for specific items.
Attach new fabric, padding, springs, and webbing to furniture frames using hand tools and power tools.
Use staple guns and sewing machines to secure materials and join fabric pieces.
Create and attach eyelets, press studs, and other fittings as required.
Stitch, tuft, or add decorative trims to upholstered items. Trim excess material and sand edges to prevent damage.
Apply stain-repellent and fabric-protective finishes as needed. Ensure high-quality workmanship and finishing standards.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following health and safety guidelines.
Use specific cleaners to remove any marks or residues from finished upholstery.
Qualifications and Skills :
Minimum qualification required is AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV .In the absence of qualification, 3 years of relevant experience is required.
Applicant should possess following skills
Excellent design skills, attention to detail, the ability to draw and interpret design templates, and knowledge of upholstery tools such as hot knives, nail guns, and sewing equipment.
