Your new role
Situated in the Safer Community Program, the Child Safety Advisor will act as a source of support, advice and expertise to the university community on child safety matters.

The advisor will work to actively promote awareness of staff's obligations under the Victorian Child Safe Standards and the university's Child Safety Policy, to ensure compliance and best practice in their own settings.

The advisor will work with diverse programs and areas that conduct activities or events involving children or young people under the age of 18, to support the assessment and mitigation of child safety risks across all aspects of service delivery. The advisor will also be the first point of contact for staff who have concerns about a child or young person and will provide support to the university's Child Safety Officer to make reports and notifications to Child Protection or The Commission for Children and Young People.
What you'll need to succeed
Knowledge and skills:

Demonstrated knowledge of child safety legislation, and current practices associated strengthening organisational child safety responsibilities.
Demonstrated experience in working with stakeholders on the identification of child safety risks and the implementation of risk mitigation strategies.
Demonstrated experience in leading child safety capacity building and awareness raising initiatives (or equivalent) across a diverse stakeholder group.
Demonstrated knowledge of child safety reporting pathways and organisational obligations.
High level presentation skills, including demonstrated experience in public speaking
High level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to relate effectively with a range of people across all levels of the organisation.
Experience in the preparation of confidential and sensitive reports and related documentation.
Demonstrated experience with advising on policy, procedures, and legislative requirements within a large organisation (experience within an educational setting would be considered advantageous)

This position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check or be willing to obtain one upon commencement.
