Arketype is an established multidisciplinary Design Consultancy specialising in Wayfinding and Exhibition Design.

From updating the South Australian Public Transport Authorities’ transit signage, to making the Vickers Vimy shine in its new home at the Adelaide Airport …we have even helped people hone their goal kicking skills at the Australian Sports Museum at the MCG.
Our work marries together Graphic and Structural Design, working alongside Curators, Project Managers & Architects to achieve robust, high-quality solutions.
We have a full-time position available for an exemplary Wayfinding, Graphic and Environmental Designer.
The ability to think three-dimensionally and have an understanding of materials, construction methods, and a high level of typographic skills as well as being able to read architectural documentation is desirable. The role requires a motivated, energetic designer with the ability to liaise with clients and communicate ideas clearly and confidently.
Salary offered: $85,000 - $90,000 (commensurate with experience)
The position requires:
• Consultation with the client and stakeholders to determine the design brief
• Perform investigations and evaluations to determine the essential communication requirements for design projects
• Generation of graphic design concepts for wayfinding, environmental, exhibition and graphics elements to meet the design brief
• Creating designs using a range of approaches, including drafting, illustrating, picturing, and organizing layouts, to articulate the design idea
• Presentation of the creative designs to the client and stakeholders
• Formulation of wayfinding elements including typography, icons, messaging hierarchy and format, development of illustrative and pictorial elements as and when required to meet the required messaging
• Preparation of branding elements and typography hierarchy, story panels and environmental elements for exhibitions
• Preparation of typographical, supergraphic and external signage/art elements for public interpretive signage projects
• Aid in the development of the wayfinding strategy to formulate the visitor journey, review the visitors’ requirements and develop required signage elements
• Effective management of projects including client liaison, presentations, meeting deadlines and co-ordinating with sub-consultants or contractors.
• Discussing design approaches with clients, and stakeholders during internal design evaluation sessions
• Detailing and documenting the finalized design for production, encompassing finished artwork, specification documentation, effective quality and revision control
• Effective project filing and management for archival requirements
• Effective utilisation of in-house project management software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Xcel, Word, Outlook and Teams
• You will be a major contributor to the graphic, environmental, wayfinding and visual design style of current and future projects
• You will be a major contributor to the creative team in the development of current and future projects
• You will be a major contributor to the artistic direction of spatial elements
• You will provide the necessary skills including:
? Concept design and development
? Design development
? Design documentation
? Museum / exhibition development > Branding and graphic design
? Signage and wayfinding
? Production management
? Skills in Adobe CC Suite, Microsoft suite, web development and project management tools
? Administration of your projects
? Assist in the quoting / tender process
? Project management
? Client liaison
? General day to day management activities
? Future development of business opportunities

• The position involves a great deal of autonomy and requires a self-starter.
Essentials:
• Bachelor of Arts Degree specialising in Visual Communications (Graphic Design) or equivalent plus at least 2 years’ experience, or at least 5 years of relevant experience in lieu of qualification
• Adobe Creative Suite
• Ability to work independently and with creative direction
• Studio experience

• Any digital/web design experience will be viewed favourably in addition to the above essential skills
