Seeking a motivated and passionate Chef willing to share their love of food with the Cohuna community.
The Bower Tavern in Cohuna has glowing online reviews, a loyal and supportive customer base and is the heartbeat of this country town.
Proprietors, Jamie & Vicki are seeking a skilled Chef to join their team and report directly to the head chef. We currently have a Chef position available for the perfect candidate to join us. We have a versatile and supportive team and work with a set roster.
Supported by the proprietor and existing kitchen staff you will be given the opportunity to contribute, shine and continue to deliver high quality to food to the community and travelling tourists.
This is the ideal position for a local to secure full-time position in a great team or the perfect gateway to a simpler life for someone seeking a tree-change.
Cohuna is in North Victoria on the Gunbower Creek and just a short drive to the mighty Murray River. The township offers a friendly and growing community, good schools, an expanding rural business community and the opportunity to explore the region on days off.
Open 7 days a week, the menu focuses on modern all rounded cuisine and pub classics. The Tavern Known as “the second office” waters and feeds a legion of loyal locals, and in the summer, months is very popular with tourists.
This great opportunity is suitable for an energetic and passionate Chef looking to take the next step in their career.

For this awesome opportunity you will need:

• Have 2+ years of relevant experience in a busy tavern will be highly preferred.
• A trade certificate in commercial cookery and/or hospitality management.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Fantastic communication skills.
• Creative skills to create and suggest new recipes.
• Sound understanding of food safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Set up the kitchen with cooking utensils and equipment, like knives, pans and kitchen scales.
• Study each recipe and gather all necessary ingredients.
• Cook food in a timely manner.
• Delegate tasks to kitchen staff.
• Inform wait staff about daily specials.
• Ensure appealing plate presentation.
• Supervise kitchenhand and assist head chef as needed.
• Slightly modify recipes to meet customers’ need and requests (e.g. reduce salt, remove dairy).
• Monitor food stock and place orders.
• Check freshness of food and discard out-of-date items.
• Experiment with recipes and suggest new dishes for the menu.
• Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area.
