Position Overview: Metro Marble & Granite WA is seeking an experienced and skilled Fitter Machinist to join our production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining various machines used in the fabrication of stone products. This is a full-time position that requires a meticulous and detail-oriented individual with a strong background in machining and mechanical fitting.
Key Responsibilities:
• Set up, operate, and maintain machines used in the cutting, shaping, and finishing of marble, granite, and other stone materials.
• Study drawings and specifications to determine suitable material, method and sequence of operations, and machine settings
• Checking fabricated and assembled material for accuracy, clearance and fit using precision measuring instruments
• Setting guides, stops and other controls on machining tools, setting up prescribed cutting and shaping tools in machines and presses, and setting controls for cutting and polishing machines
• Diagnosing faults and performing operational maintenance of machines, and overhauling and repairing mechanical parts and fluid power equipment
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on machinery to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
• Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications to produce custom stone products to precise measurements.
• Assemble and fit components to ensure products meet quality standards and customer requirements.
• Collaborate with the production team to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of projects.
• Conduct inspections of finished products to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.
• Adhere to all workplace health and safety regulations, maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
• Assist in the training and development of junior team members as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Proven experience as a Fitter Machinist, preferably in the stone or similar manufacturing industry.
• AQF Certificate including on the job training of 2 years or AQF IV equivalent qualification – 3 years experience may be in lieu of qualification
• Minimum 2 years work experience is essential
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate and maintain various machines and tools.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
