Australian Fishing Enterprises (AFE) is the largest exporter of Southern Bluefin Tuna in Australia. Our tuna is exported around the world for sale in international marketplaces as a premium sushi/ sashimi product. We specialise in the fishing, ranching and grow out of Southern Bluefin Tuna and control the entire process from catching, feeding, harvesting, processing and delivery.

JOB SUMMARY:
The deckhand will carry out duties as directed by the Farm Manager or Skippers.

OPERATIONS:
Periods at sea are varied and weather dependent. Hours of operation are determined by the daily operational needs. Farm vessels can be required to conduct operations year round from land based sites out to the farming site. The season begins in December finishing with the annual harvest period throughout June, July & August.
Approximate start dates are December/January for 9 months
Jan – July; Start time 0600 – Finish approximately 1700 (this may change from time to time.)
Aug – Dec; Start time 0730 – Finish 1530

DUTIES:
The Employee will be required to perform the following duties whilst at sea on farm site;
• Ability to stand on unstable surfaces and undertake general duties on a day-to-day basis as advised by the Master
• Forklift operation (license required) onshore only
• Loading and unloading of vessel at sea and on-shore
• Fish feeding, harvesting & processing
• Maintenance as directed by Vessel Engineer
• Repetitive manual labor
• Vessel cleaning and house keeping
• Vessel mooring/berthing
• Net mending
• Rope work (splicing, knotting etc.)
• Farm pontoon maintenance

INDUCTION & TRAINING:
• All crew are inducted onto the vessel prior to departure
• Safety drills conducted bi-monthly
• Deck machinery training and instruction conducted
• SOP’s to be discussed for operations

REMUNERATION:
The position is an Award Rate, paid on a fortnightly basis. Farm work completed inshore and onshore will be calculated at the normal hourly Farm rate. An additional contract is put in place to cover the periods offshore for catch and tow.
