Overview:
The Grader Operator is responsible for operating heavy grading equipment to maintain and prepare roadways, haul roads, and other surfaces within the mine site. This role is crucial for ensuring safe and efficient transportation routes, as well as supporting overall site operations. The position requires expertise in grader operation, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work effectively in a challenging mining environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Operate motor graders and other grading equipment to grade and level roads, haul roads, and other surfaces within the mine site.
• Execute precise grading tasks to ensure proper road profiles, drainage, and surface conditions.
• Adjust grader settings and attachments as needed to achieve desired grading results.
• Maintain and repair haul roads, access roads, and other critical surfaces to ensure optimal driving conditions for other heavy equipment and haul trucks.
• Implement and adjust grading techniques to address erosion, potholes, and other surface issues.
• Collaborate with site personnel to develop and execute road maintenance and improvement plans.
• Adhere to all safety regulations, guidelines, and protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
• Always wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Participate in safety training and contribute to safety meetings and initiatives.
• Maintain accurate records of material movement and equipment usage.
• Complete and submit daily safety documentation.
• Communicate effectively with other team members, supervisors, and operators to coordinate tasks and resolve issues.
• Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards promptly.
• Assist with the maintenance and repair of equipment as needed.
• Keep the wider work areas clean and organized to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Monitor and adjust operations based on feedback and performance metrics.
• Identify and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity.
Requirements
• Certificate III or equivalent qualification is preferable.
• 2 – 3 years of experience operating loaders or similar heavy equipment in a mining or construction environment is preferable.
• Proficient in operating front-end loaders and understanding of their mechanics.
• Strong knowledge of mining operations and material handling techniques.
• Ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work positively within a team.
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
• Construction Industry White Card and ability to pass induction assessments. A “C Class” licence is critical, a HR or HC licence is preferable.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to operate machines for required time each day and carry out occasional physical task, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat.
• Capacity to operate equipment on challenging terrain.
Work Environment:
• Work is performed at the company deport and at times on a mine site, which may involve exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including shifts and overtime, as required by mining operations.
