Overview:
As a Fitter-Welder at our site, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of metal parts & equipment. Your role will be critical in ensuring the reliable operation of machinery and equipment, thereby supporting our mining operations and minimizing downtime.
Key Responsibilities
• Install, maintain, and repair mechanical components and systems, including machinery used in mining operations, conveyors and pumps.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance and safety of equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, including alignment problems, hydraulic and pneumatic system faults, and wear and tear on components.
• Conduct equipment overhauls and refurbishments as required, ensuring adherence to manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals to facilitate accurate repairs and installations.
• Collaborate with other maintenance personnel and supervisors to coordinate and prioritize maintenance activities.
• Maintain detailed records of work performed, including parts used and time spent on tasks.
• Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
• Participate in safety drills and training programs, contributing to a culture of safety on site.
• Assist in the development and implementation of maintenance procedures and best practices.
• Studying drawings and specifications to determine suitable material, method and sequence of operations, and machine settings
• Fitting fabricated metal parts into products and assembling metal parts and subassemblies to produce machines and equipment
• Checking fabricated and assembled metal parts for accuracy, clearance and fit using precision measuring instruments
• Setting guides, stops and other controls on machining tools, setting up prescribed cutting and shaping tools and dies in machines and presses, and setting controls for textile machines
• Forming metal stock and castings to fine tolerances using machining tools to press, cut, grind, plane, bore and drill metal
• Cutting, threading, bending and installing hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines
• Preparing pattern mechanisms to control the operation of textile machines used to spin, weave, knit, sew and tuft fabric
• Diagnosing faults and performing operational maintenance of machines, and overhauling and repairing mechanical parts and fluid power equipment
• May erect machines and equipment on-site
Qualifications:
• Trade or equivalent qualification is preferable.
• 2 – 3 years of experience as a Fitter-Welder.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including conveyors, pumps, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Valid “C Class” driver’s license; additional licenses or certifications (e.g., forklift, crane) are advantageous.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work in challenging conditions, including outdoors and in confined spaces.
• Capable of lifting heavy objects and standing for extended periods.
• Willingness to work irregular hours and be on-call as required.
Work Environment:
• Work is performed at the company deport and at times on a mine site, which may involve exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including shifts and overtime, as required by mining operations.
