Overview:
The Excavator Operator is essential to the mining process. The excavator is responsible for including digging and stacking material in a windrowed formation so material can be accessed for haulage. This role requires proficiency in excavator operation, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively and efficiently in a mining environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct pre-operation checks and routine maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
• Operate excavators and other heavy machinery for various tasks including excavation, trenching, and material handling.
• Execute precise digging, grading, and lifting operations in accordance with project specifications and safety standards.
• Excavate and stack materials into a windrowed formation while preventing spillage and reducing waste.
• Follow instructions and guidelines to support mining operations and achieve production targets.
• Adjust excavation techniques based on material consistency and operational requirements.
• Adhere to all safety regulations, guidelines, and protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
• Always wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Participate in safety training and contribute to safety meetings and initiatives.
• Maintain accurate records of material movement and equipment usage.
• Complete and submit daily safety documentation.
• Communicate effectively with other team members, supervisors, and operators to coordinate tasks and resolve issues.
• Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards promptly.
• Keep the wider work areas clean and organized to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Monitor and adjust operations based on feedback and performance metrics.
• Identify and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity.
Requirements
• Certificate III or equivalent qualification is preferable.
• 2 -3 years of experience operating loaders or similar heavy equipment in a mining or construction environment is preferable.
• Proficient in operating front-end loaders and understanding of their mechanics.
• Strong knowledge of mining operations and material handling techniques.
• Ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work positively within a team.
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
• Construction Industry White Card and ability to pass induction assessments. A “C Class” licence is critical, a HR or HC licence is preferable.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to operate machines for required time each day and carry out occasional physical task, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat.
• Capacity to operate equipment on challenging terrain.
Work Environment:
• Work is performed at the company deport and at times on a mine site, which may involve exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including shifts and overtime, as required by mining operations.
