  • 5 days per week, Tuesdays to Saturdays from 7:45pm to 4:15pm. 
  • $69,746.76 per annum plus Superannuation

The Waste and Sustainability Department at Hume City Council are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join the Resource Recovery team.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Operating Council’s Resource Recovery Centre in accordance with operational and safety procedures and guidelines. 
  • Ensure the RRC is well presented and kept in a neat and tidy manner.
  • Responsible for tasks such as the day-to-day receival, sorting, separation, and movement of waste and recyclables at the RRC. This includes the identification, physical recovery, and separation of materials suitable for resale within the Recycled Goods Store and arranging appropriate movement.
  • Undertake the removal of contaminates (including asbestos removal) in accordance with training and procedures.
  • Contribute to creating and maintaining a safe working environment, and self-initiating responses to a potential hazard or incident and reporting these accordingly.
  • Provide professional customer service to a diverse mix of residential and commercial customers.
  •  Assist customers with wayfinding within the RRC.
  • Conduct daily pre-start checks, basic preventative maintenance and clean plant in accordance with maintenance instructions and as required.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • Understanding of Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre/Transfer Station operations. 
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in Occupational Health and Safety and the provision of a safe workplace.
  • Capable of completing and maintaining records, forms, and information sheets. 
  • Requires the ability to gain co-operation and assistance from members of the public and other employees in the activities relating to the RRC.
  • Capability to resolve daily disputes with customers related to Waste Recovery Centre Operations
  • Experience in resource recovery, recycling, landfill, and/or transfer station operations.
  • Willingness to work in a hands-on outdoor role in the Waste and Resource Recovery industry.

Required Certifications & Qualifications: 

  • Experience in resource recovery, recycling, landfill, and/or transfer station operations.
  • Licence and competencies to:
    •  Operate Forklift (essential)
    • Operate backhoe/front end loader (essential)
    • Operate Excavator
