At AUSTRALIAN OCEAN BIOTECHNOLOGY PTY LTD, we are actively recruiting for a dedicated Life Science Technician to join our team on a full-time basis, committing to 38/40 hours per week. This pivotal role involves a wide array of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the health, growth, and sustainability of our aquatic species. As an integral part of our aquaculture operations, you will be entrusted with the following key duties:
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment to conduct experiments and research.
• Collect, process, and prepare biological samples for analysis.
• Record and analyse experimental data, using statistical and computational methods as needed.
• Document procedures, results, and observations accurately and in compliance with regulations.
• Adhere to safety and quality control protocols to ensure accurate and reliable results.
• Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure proper functioning.
• Support scientists and researchers by preparing materials, conducting experiments, and interpreting results.
• Order and inventory laboratory supplies and reagents, ensuring they are available and properly stored.
• Follow and enforce health, safety, and environmental regulations in the laboratory.
• Train new technicians or assistants on laboratory procedures and equipment use.
Skills and experience:
• Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field, or alternatively, a minimum of 3 years of practical experience in the industry.
• Strong understanding of aquaculture principles, practices, and techniques.
• Knowledge of water quality management, feeding strategies, and disease prevention in aquaculture settings.
• Ability to manage and supervise aquaculture operations effectively.
• Proficiency in record-keeping and reporting.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions under pressure.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well in a team.
• Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of animal welfare and environmental stewardship.
• Essential to the role is a minimum of 1 year experience with Flat Fish.
• A minimum of 6 months experience in Abalone Nursery supervision, including the ability to oversee Abalone Nursery and Flatfish research projects independently.
