• Working with industrial sewing machines in high volume production, flatbed and post machines.
• Reading work orders, interpreting sewing patterns and instructions, determining how to sew materials together accurately and efficiently
• Setting up equipment to the specifications, calibrating and operating sewing machines including Multi head machines and embroidery machines. Installing bobbins, needles and guide plates to accommodate different fabric types and create assorted stitching patterns, ensuring high quality garments output
• Excellent understanding of metric and imperial measurements, measuring and marking fabrics and materials, cutting the fabric accurately, and able to work with measurements only without requiring a sample reference.
• Positioning items under needles, using marks on machines, clamps, templates, or cloth as guides. Placing spools of thread, cord, or other materials on spindles, inserting bobbins, and thread ends through machine guides and components.
• Assembling pieces of garments by matching patterns and dye lots. Conferring with any specific instructions on production orders
• Operating single, double or multi-needle serging, flat bed felling, banding and other sewing machines, joining sections of garments or other articles into finished products on a piece-work or production basis
• Expertise in straight sewing, over-locking, twin needling, binding and flat-lock. Operating serging machines to sew and overcast edges of material simultaneously. Operating stitching machines to sew leather parts together for leather garments.
• Selecting the right type and colour of threads and ensuring that they are properly threaded in machine needles. Hooping garments and fabric correctly and setting under the needle.
• Operating tackers, pocket-setters, buttonhole makers and fusing, hemmer and other machines to perform various operations in the fabrication of garments and other articles
• Conducting quality checks to ensure accurate stitching, seams, and patterns. Keeping track of inventory and reordering stock.
• Performing regular machine inspections, carrying out preventative and regular maintenance, solving problems. Repairing garments and other articles during the manufacturing process
