Hays are partnering with Ipswich City Council to engage a Senior Civil Design Engineer into their Asset and Infrastructure Services Division. At Ipswich City Council, they are more than just a local government body, they are a community-driven organisation who value a diverse workforce, innovation and a collaborative culture. You will have the opportunity to work across a range of exciting Capital Works Programs including Transport Infrastructure, flood mitigation, drainage and asset rehabilitation.
Your new role
This role sits within the Technical Services and Coordination team and, as the Senior Civil Design Engineer, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing conceptual and detailed designs for civil infrastructure projects. This exciting opportunity involves managing a range of complex projects whilst also liaising/managing external contractors and consultancies involved in the projects, including public utility providers.

You will also be responsible for the following:


Prepare design briefs, undertake tender evaluations and coordinate procurement from external design consultants
Administer and manage design contracts
Develop and maintain design procedures, practices and softwares
Deliver on design packages in a timely and organised manner whilst staying inline with all budget and project requirements

What you'll need to succeed
Whilst technical knowledge and experience is essential for the role, they are looking for someone who can assist in leading the team and drive collaboration. It is essential for the right candidate to have excellent communication skills both with internal and external stakeholders, as well as the ability to effectively manage external consultants and contractors on a day-to-day basis.

You will also hold the following:

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
Possess a current Class C Driver's Licence
Experience working for Local Government or on Local Government Projects from a Consulting or contractor side
Desirable - RPEQ or Eligibility to obtain RPEQ in the future
