The primary function of this role is to provide geotechnical engineering inputs towards implementing effective geotechnical controls in operational areas and leading geotechnical related internal studies.
Travel requirements: visit each mine site at least once a year (Haile, Didipio, Macraes and Waihi)
Some Key Accountabilities:
- Provide geotechnical and hydrogeological governance and specialist technical support to operational and project teams
- Develop group geotechnical standards and implement necessary governance framework to improve effective application of these standards
- Identify and implement innovative geotechnical and hydrogeological solutions and ensuring best practice ground control management standards are in place and regularly updated in conjunction with the operational teams
- Ensure that site risk registers incorporate up to date controls required for the successful management of geotechnical and hydrogeological risks.
- Contribute to the preparation of fit-for-purpose ground control, ground and surface water, rehabilitation, and closure management plans and supporting designs
- Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) and guidance in preparing detailed work scopes for consultants and contractors, and managing resulting contracts where required for study, project, or operational purposes
- Conduct routine site visits to coach and provide technical expertise in addressing geotechnical challenges and guide forward work plans to better understand geotechnical risks.
