Steel Mains is Australia's leading manufacturer and supplier of complete steel pipeline systems for the transportation of water and wastewater, offering a total solution approach to its customers.
We are looking for a Production Engineer to join our Operations team based in Somerton, Victoria. Reporting to the Fittings Production Manager this role is responsible for the coordination of day-to-day tasks in each production area and communicating these tasks to the Leading Hands and Operators.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing and controlling the activities of the labour hire and the workflow practices of all employees to ensure maximum performance and efficiencies.
- Maintaining staff by recruiting, inducting and training labour hire employees.
- Ensuring machines and equipment are clean, safe and calibrated.
- Identify issues in efficiency and make recommendations for improvements.
- Reviewing of production drawings and making required changes before releasing for final production.
- Preparing job packs and issuing work instructions to the shop floor for fabrication and finishing.
- Procurement of raw materials for production according to the specifications outlined in the project drawings, product standards and in accordance with Quality, Environment and OHS procedures.
- Monitor and control material usage in production, inventory control and adjust the orders accordingly.
- Daily update the production register, maintain integrity of data in ERP software, and prepare reports for production timelines.
- Identify and report to the QA Officer / Production Manager any internal system or product non-conformance and any opportunities for quality improvement.
- Identify and report to the EHS Officer / Production Manager any hazardous condition or unsafe practice and any opportunities for EHS improvement.
To be successful you must:
- Have an engineering degree (any stream)
- Good communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Work confidently with data management related software/programmes and the full MS Office Suite
- Basic understanding of Material Science (i.e., Steel and/or Polymers)
- Knowledge of quality systems
- Have a passion for quality outcomes
