The Client:



Our client specializes in customized flavour, fragrance, and seasoning development, offering both national and international services. With SQF accreditation, the company provides short delivery times, small batch sizes, competitive pricing, and technical support. The Role:

This Food Technologist role is for a full-time role with an annual salary of $85,000 to $95,000 + Superannuation and will be based at their Carrum Downs, VIC office.





The Responsibilities:



• Assisting the Laboratory and Innovations Manager with:

Working with a customer’s base product to achieve a desired outcome.

Creating samples and sending products to customers.

Recording and uploading recipe files to the Michaelona server

Meeting with customers to better understand their product requirements

Design, Organize, and conduct consumer testing projects (collaborate with laboratory staff)

Collaborate with CEO and Sales to source new projects from existing and new customers



Assisting with various company roles where needed.

Identifying areas of improvement (needs/problems) within the Sampling and Innovations department and actioning appropriately

Sending flavour samples to customers when requested.

Evaluating current and new incoming samples.

Eliminating old/expired and unsuitable flavour stock samples.

Ensuring that the laboratory is cleaned/sanitized and kept in an orderly manner.

General maintenance of laboratory and equipment including instrument testing performance, arranging equipment calibration service, replacement, and repair.

Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing industry publications.

Evaluating food items for their flavor, color, taste, texture, and nutritional value.

Providing recommendations on the best methods for food preservation, processing, packaging, storage, and distribution.

Creating and implementing quality control protocols and safety guidelines for food production.

Perform experiments and analyses to determine the chemical composition and reactivity of natural and synthetic ingredients.

Assess flavor products for aroma, taste, texture, and stability across different food applications.

Evaluate the consistency of flavor and fragrance results under various conditions.

Supervise lab teams in the testing, refinement, and application of flavors to food products.







The Requirements:



Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

At least 2 years expertise in creating, refining, and optimizing flavours and fragrances for food products

At least 2 years commercial experience of food chemistry, including conducting chemical and physical tests to determine the quality, stability, and interactions of ingredients within food products

At least 2 years commercial proficiency in developing and implementing quality control procedures, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations

At least 2 years commercial experience in research and development, including innovating new flavours and fragrances, managing lab operations, and overseeing projects from concept to commercialization

Proven experience working closely with clients to deliver customized flavour solutions, collaborating with R&D, production, and marketing teams, and understanding market trends and consumer preferences

Strong problem-solving skills in addressing product quality and stability issues, ability to document research findings and regulatory compliance data, and experience in sourcing and evaluating new ingredients for product development

Willingness to stay updated on new technologies and continuously enhance technical skills

Customer service focused: committed to providing exceptional customer service across all channels – written, phone and face to face.

Communication: the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, varying communication style depending upon the audience.

Attention to detail: excellent attention to detail and written skills when communicating with others, both internally and externally.

Commerciality: ability to apply knowledge in a practical, commercial manner.

Teamwork: willingness to assist and support others as required and get on with team members.

Time management/organisation: accomplish objectives effectively within time frame given and carry out administrative duties within portfolio in an efficient and timely manner.
