POSITION PURPOSE
The role of the Mechanical Fitter is responsible for the repair, fabrication, assembly and installation of mechanical equipment within the feed production facility to maintain efficiency and reliability of production processes. To achieve this, they need a good understanding of the workings of the plant (operate), problem solve, carry out any breakdown maintenance requirements that may arise together with planned preventative maintenance activities.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES - include but not limited to
a) Mechanical Fitting
Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of mechanical equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, implementing timely and effective repairs.
Collaborate with the production team to minimize downtime and improve overall equipment reliability.
Install, assemble and test new machinery and equipment as needed.
Work closely with other maintenance professionals to coordinate repairs and upgrades.
Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment condition and repairs performed; and
Adhere to safety protocols and regulations, promoting a culture of safety within the workplace
b) Quality
Help in the implementation and continuous improvement of relevant procedures and SOP's.
Adhere to company policies and procedures; and
Promote continuous improvement activities and culture.
SAFETY
Classified as a Worker under the WHS legislation.
Ensure adherence to all the safety principles and requirements of the Act; and
Maintain compliance to company safety management systems
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preventative maintenance experience
Fault diagnostic skills
Mechanical hand skills and knowledge; and
Understanding of manufacturing processes and maintenance data
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting or a related field.
Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter in an industrial setting, preferably within the manufacturing or food production industry.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and industrial machinery.
Ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals.
Proficient in using hand and power tools.
Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance; and
Willingness to work flexible hours.
