Who we are The Gas and Liquid Fuels Division provides policy advice and delivers policy reforms and programs that underpin the reliable and affordable supply of gas and liquid fuels. Gas powered generation has an important role in firming the electricity grid as Australia transitions to renewable energy. AEMO forecasts the system will need up to 10 gigawatts of gas powered generation capacity by . Gas also provides a valuable source of heating for businesses and households and feedstock to industrial users. Over time gas use across the economy will need to decline to meet Australias net zero target.
