Childrens Medical Research Institute The Translational Vectorology Research Unit specializes in the development and validation of novel recombinant adeno-associated viral vectors (rAAV) for safe and efficient targeting of clinically relevant cells/tissues. The Unit has also strong interest in the development and translation of individualised vector-based gene therapeutics for the treatment of rare paediatric genetic conditions. Task & Responsibilities 1.    Conduct and support research experiments and projects both independently and as part of a team; 2.    Performs highly specialized techniques such as adeno-associated viral (AAV) vector production, quantification and validation in a BSL2+ tissue culture environment. 3.    Performs molecular biology assays including but not limited to: DNA and RNA extraction and purification, DNA preparation, PCR, RT-PCR, ddPCR and QPCR/ RT-QPCR, general cloning of DNA in plasmids. 4.    Performs standard DNA, RNA and protein analysis using such assays as Southern blotting, northern blotting, and western blotting 5.    Be directly involved in studies involving various preclinical models, including in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo models. 6.    Prepare technical reports, and contribute to research papers under general supervision; 7.    Maintain accurate records and be involved in data basing results and shared laboratory resources; 8.    Provide assistance in duties which contribute to the general organization and management of the laboratory such as ensuring supply and maintenance of required workplace materials, and maintaining CMRI laboratory safety guidelines and standard operating procedures; 9.    Provide assistance, guidance and training to other members of the unit; 10.    Apply broad technical knowledge, research skills, and laboratory experience to a diverse range of laboratory procedures and tasks and identify novel solutions to research problems; 11.    Share knowledge with the community and promote CMRI through participation in activities such as seminars or Discovery Days; 12.    Actively participate in laboratory meetings, including presentation of project data during team meetings and lab meetings as well as during CMRI research seminars and research retreats; 13.    Other duties as required by the Unit Head. Work Heath and Safety     Individuals have the following responsibilities: 1.    Ensure safe work practices are adopted in any work area and contribute to the development and maintenance of risk assessments and standard operating procedures (SOPs), including workplace behaviour. 2.    Report injuries, accidents, incidents and near misses in the work area and on the corrective actions taken to prevent reoccurrence. 3.    Do not intentionally or recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety, or welfare. 4.    As an officer of the organisation, you must ensure due diligence to make sure that the organisation complies with its health and safety obligations Qualification & Experience Knowledge & Skills Essential: •    Strong knowledge of relevant area of scientific research, including Molecular Biology, Tissue Culture, and Vectorology. •    Hands-on experience in the relevant area of molecular biology, cell culture and vectorology. •    Hands-on experience working in BSL2 lab and strong hands-on experience producing and working with recombinant AAV vectors, as well as working with preclinical models (including in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo models) is a strong preference. •    Advanced computer skills and proficiency with database programs. •    Advanced understanding of the clinical aspects of research. Education & Qualifications Essential: •    Appropriate degree in a relevant discipline, preferentially Bachelors of Science (B.S.) degree or Masters (MS) degree in life sciences (biology, microbiology, biochemistry etc.).   Experience:     •    2 years research lab experience.  •    Proficient in routine cell and molecular biology techniques including mammalian cell culture.  •    Demonstrated knowledge and experience with both PC and MAC operating systems and proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel required.
