The Litter Action Officer – Chain of Ponds is responsible for facilitating a reduction in the incidence and impact of litter in the Moonee Ponds Creek and for coordinating the planning, implementation, measurement and reporting of the Moonee Ponds Creek Litter Action Plan and Recommendations within the Moonee Ponds Creek Litter Assessment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Convene and facilitate meetings of the Litter Working Group (in accordance with the Terms of Reference.)
  • Seek the participation of a diverse range of litter-related stakeholders across the Moonee Ponds Creek catchment in the working group.
  • Prepare agendas, minutes and reports to support the function of the Working Group.
  • Provide updates on the Working Group to the Chain of Ponds Governance Group, Chain of Ponds Collaboration Lead and the Chain of Ponds website, as appropriate.
  • Along with the Working Group, continue to deliver the Litter Action Plan.
  • Coordinate the delivery of the Actions with the Working Group and Chain of Ponds Partner organisations.
  • Investigate (and apply where relevant) funding opportunities to support implementation of litter actions.
  • Measure and report on the Action Plan as agreed with the Litter Working Group and Chain of Ponds Governance Group.  
  • Update Chain of Ponds website with Litter Working Group progress and annual reports.
  • Support the Working Group and its members in identifying / seeking partnership opportunities with government, business and community sectors.
  • Research, report on and facilitate dialogue around key litter management issues across the catchment.
  • Engage with the Wurundjeri Woi wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation on litter projects as appropriate and in conjunction with the Chain of Ponds Collaboration Lead.
  • In consultation with the Chain of Pond’s Collaboration Lead, coordinate projects to deliver agreed outcomes as identified by the Litter Working Group.
  • Liaise with council and members of the working group to produce strategic plans, provide advice and review key documents.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • Degree in or lesser qualification combined with experience delivering Environmental and/or waterway and/or litter management programs in the community.
  • Demonstrated experience in litter management and education / behaviour change programs.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to multi-task, handle multiple demands and deliver on project tasks / plans.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to provide accurate and detailed reports, plans and correspondence
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to influence to achieve outcomes, decision-making or a course of action.
  • Ability to understand and respond to varied stakeholder needs, and to build and foster relationships.

Required Certifications & Qualifications: 

  • A Current Driver’s License.
