Join the Arts and Culture team to support the delivery of a vibrant and exciting gallery program.

This role requires an eye for how artworks and historical items can be assembled and displayed to create meaning for a community.

Collaborate with visual artists and community groups, to hone your skills and support innovative exhibitions, public programs, and other related arts events.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide technical support in the installation and deinstallation of the annual exhibition program at Hume’s three gallery venues (Craigieburn, Broadmeadows and Sunbury) as well as other temporary displays across Hume as required.
  • Support community members and project partners in Hume the implementation of community-based arts and cultural development projects, including the outcomes of Arts Grants.
  • Realise the Hume Social Justice Charter through arts and cultural development programs.
  • Support the promotion of arts and cultural development opportunities to the Hume community.
  • Work under the direction of the Curator and other arts and culture team members, to facilitate the development of arts and cultural activity across Hume.
  • Represent Hume City Council within arts and culture networks as directed.
  • Ensure adequate consultation and engagement with key stakeholders to foster arts and cultural development opportunities within Hume.
  • Undertake day to day administration including maintenance of databases, filing, undertaking correspondence, customer service and attending internal and external meetings. 

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • An understanding of the Hume City Council’s Social Justice Charter and Creative Community Strategy.
  • Proven ability to support arts and cultural development programs.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of all facets of Exhibition delivery in a gallery or museum environment.
  • Commitment to providing quality customer service.
  • Ability to gain co-operation and assistance from clients, members of the public and other employees.
  • Demonstrated experience in arts and culture development and ability to support engagement and participation of diverse and disadvantaged communities. 
  • Ability to work individually as well as collaborative skills, working effectively as a part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Australian art and the arts and culture industry.
  • An understanding of community engagement and capacity building employing an arts and cultural development approach.

Required Certifications & Qualifications: 

  • A post-trade certificate or other post-secondary qualification or knowledge and skills gained through on-the-job training commensurate with the requirements of the work at this Band classification.
  • Current driver’s licence
