SBR group is a well-established family-owned construction company in the City of Ryde with a reputation throughout the area and the greater Sydney region. Recently we are establishing an in-house design team that focuses on delivering mid-high end residential, multi-residential and commercial projects.
In order to reinforce the design team, we are seeking a highly skilled experienced graduate architect with solid experience in Design Management for the numerous services we provide, including but not limited to, feasibility services, architectural design, project coordination, authority approvals, construction phase and completion and closeout.
You will act as the client's design project manager with a strong focus on managing several consultants and coordination with the construction team. Leading a number of packages, you will review compliance, chair design meetings, manage document control and ensure all technical architectural requirements are met. You will also work closely with the client to provide input into the design with a focus on detailed plans to ensure the clients brief is delivered on time and within budget constraints.


Main Responsibilities:

Lead an extensive range of activities associated with pre-design, design, pre-construction, construction, and closeout

Provide technical support to clients throughout the pre-construction process

Collaborate with the sales team and provide technical support before clients signing pre-contract to achieve the best customer outcomes.

Review the tender documents and develop scopes for consultants based on the Project Brief and Contract Requirements.

Manage the internal design team and progressively monitor the production of architectural drawings

Work closely with the construction team to ensure that the designs meet the required cost budgets and programme for construction works.

Liaison with external planners and consultancies to ensure that the design deliverables are achieved

Oversee the administration of RFIs to clients, architects, and consultants and coordinate preliminary drawing changes within the internal team

Review building & planning controls and relate the designs to relevant codes and local council requirements.

Review design deliverables for completeness and constructability and facilitate the resolution of any design issues from a technical and/or construction perspective

Support the Project Manager with the generation of proposals and cost estimates for change requests

Conduct team meetings, client/architect meetings, and budget reviews.

Oversee the delivery of DA/CDC drawing documentation and Occupation Certificate.

Coordinate with consultants and manage/track the progress of state and local authority approvals.

Liaise directly with local councils to achieve outcomes

Consult the construction team to meet the successful completion of projects with Australian Codes and Standards knowledge.

Participate in the selection of any design and construct subcontractors and manage all authority approvals.

Oversee construction projects with the construction manager to ensure designs are implemented as agreed to


Essential Skills and Experience:

Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Architecture and/or Construction Management

A minimum 5 years of experience coordinating and managing design development in high-end custom home design and construction environment

Confidence working across all stages of architectural design and documentation, especially construction documentation and coordination of consultants

Proficiency in project management and online collaboration software

Proficiency in using AutoCAD

Organisational capabilities to lead a small team of graduate architects in delivering high quality, innovative, effective and commercially viable designs while embracing a culture that values teamwork

Interpersonal skills and the ability to build, maintain and influence strong relationships with a range of stakeholders to enable the effective delivery of project design services

Experience with DA, CC, CDC and other state/ local authority approvals

Sound understanding of local planning codes and statutory requirements (NCC, Rescode, Australian Standards, etc.)
