The Design Release Engineer (DRE) will serve as the single point of contact for design development and validation for assigned vehicle components and systems, ensuring all technical, quality, and timing objectives are met. Additionally, the DRE will serve as the Product Development Team (PDT) leader for the commodities that they are in charge, ensuring that the cross-functional team adheres to objectives and delivers on project milestones.
Responsibilities:
PDT Leadership: Lead the Product Development Team (PDT), facilitate team meetings, track progress, and address issues to ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
Design and Development: Complete feasibility studies, conceptual and detailed design, and release 2D/3D drawings for assigned parts and systems.
Prototype and Production Design: Lead design activities for prototype and production phases, ensuring designs meet program objectives and validation requirements.
System Integration: Ensure assigned systems integrate seamlessly with other vehicle systems.
Technical Design Reviews: Conduct technical design reviews, initiate drawing reviews, and engage with advanced teams on system design and parts lists development.
Problem Resolution: Lead design engineers to resolve issues in the Problem Resolution and Tracking System (PRTS).
DFMEA and DRBFM: Complete and review DFMEAs and DRBFMs for all parts and design changes to identify and mitigate potential failure modes.
Validation and Testing: Identify validation requirements, support system validation, and demonstrate designs meet requirements through analysis, development, and validation with System Validation Engineers (SVE).
Supplier Management: Manage technical relationships with suppliers to ensure parts meet quality and delivery requirements, this involves but not limited to cost review, tool design review, tooling kick-off, tool try-out inspection, validation plan and report review.
Manufacturing Support: Provide design for assembly input to support manufacturing, minimize costs, and reduce cycle times.
Project Coordination and Timing Plans: Develop and execute project timing plans, initiate Engineering Change Requests (ECR), Material Orders, and external service orders.
Continuous Improvement: Contribute to ongoing design and process improvements and the development of the Bill of Design (BOD), Bill of Materials (BOM), and Bill of Process (BOP).to the continued development of the BOD/BOM/BOP
