About the Company

Punt Road Coffee Pty Ltd was started in 2021 as a company with the idea of purchasing a hospitality venue in the future. In March 2023, Punt Road Coffee Pty Ltd purchased the business ‘Blood Orange’ in Hawthorn East. Blood Orange operates primarily as a cafe serving breakfast, lunch and coffee to the locals. We also provide catering services and most of our catering clients are corporate. Punt Road Coffee employs approximately 19 employees and all play an active role within the business.


About the Role

Blood Orange serves breakfast and lunch daily as well as coffee supplied by Adore Coffee Roasters. We offer a large range of sandwiches, cakes and salads which are prepared daily by our kitchen staff. Our breakfast and lunch menu are changed seasonally to offer a range of menu items to our guests. Punt Road Coffee Pty Ltd has recently expanded (within the same premises) in terms of trading hours on Thursday to Saturday offering a range of cocktails, wine and a full dinner menu including dessert. We employ the adequate number of staff to keep the business running effectively.
Blood Orange located in Hawthorn East is looking for a Sous chef to join our growing team

Position: Sous Chef

Location of work: 659-661, Burwood Road, Hawthorn East, Vic 3123

Employment type: Full time (40 hours a week), Permanent

Salary Range: $70,000 to $80,000

Main Responsibilities:

• Oversee kitchen service during trading hours
• Management of lower grade staff members in the kitchen including training and supervision
• Involved in preparation of all the ingredients for menu
• Assist in the ordering of stock
• Assist with the organisation of deliveries and correctly storing all items
• Stock and waste management
• Prepare and cooking of meals for service
• Quality control of all meals going out to customers
• Modifications to menu items to suit customer dietary requirements
• Ideation and development of menu
• Liaise with front of house at all times to ensure a smooth service
• Assist the head chef with ordering as required
• Cleaning and sanitisation of the kitchen as required
• Keeping food safety and temperature records up to date in accordance with Food Safety guidelines
• Ensures all equipment in the kitchen is properly maintained and in working order in
• Accordance with local Health department and hotel standards.

• Strong English and communication skills
• Ability to make decisions in a timely manner and work under pressure
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, customer service and organisational skills
• Detail-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse personnel, such as food vendors, cooks, managers, and servers
• Self-motivation, the ability to work in a team and multi-task

• Perform other reasonable duties and requests as required from time to time
• General daily administration (timesheets, ordering, etc.) as required from time to time
• Must have valid qualifications and previous experience in a similar role
• Must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa
• Other responsibilities may be added at the sole discretion of management when required


Qualification and Experience:

• Diploma in Hospitality Management or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
