About the opportunity:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Farm Hand at Yarra Station in the Fitzroy River region, near Gogango and within 100km of Rockhampton. Yarra is a livestock and irrigated cropping property which will provide the successful candidate the opportunity to use and develop their skills in livestock but primarily working in broadacre cropping.
This is an ongoing, permanent opportunity and is not suitable for backpackers or candidates seeking short term work.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Station Manager you will be responsible for:
- Establishing crops including bed preparation, fertilising, sowing and cultivation
- Operating broadacre farming plant and equipment including an air-seeder, spray unit, fertiliser spreader and other farming equipment
- Crop management including herbicide and pesticide application
- Maintaining plant and equipment
- General farm duties including fencing and repairs and maintenance
- Meeting work health and safety requirements
- Cattle management, including conducting animal husbandry tasks, ensuring it is done precisely and safely
- You will have experience operating modern tractors using GPS automation
- You will have experience preparing and applying agricultural chemicals
- You will be physically fit, with a good level of general fitness to meet the physically demanding requirements of the role
- You will hold a current driver’s licence
- You will carry out your work as directed in a precise, safe and sensible manner
- You will be comfortable living on a remote property with work hours that may vary to meet operational demands and weather conditions
- A positive, can-do attitude is essential
