Test Engineers

Federal Gov't client is seeking to identify suitable candidates to perform the role of Test Engineers, from junior levels to expert and manager levels, to support the agency achieve overall testing strategies, managing effective planning, monitoring and execution of all testing activities within the agency.

Test Engineers/Managers ensure that their test effort is effectively executed and that allocated activities are completed in a structured, consistent manner in accordance with agreed test guidelines. They use their in-depth knowledge to provide technical advice and development to less experienced testers. They exercise a degree of independent judgement and make decisions within defined parameters that require reliance on skills and knowledge. Test Engineers plan their own work and contribute to teamwork goals in the context of competing priorities, and changes in workplace practices and business improvement strategies.

Key duties may include, but are not limited to:

Test Engineer – APS5

  • execute assigned test cases at various stages of testing on appropriate testing platforms
  • develop test plans, test cases, task cards, and supporting test data and/or requirements, under own direction from the specifications provided
  • analyse and report on test activities and results, and escalate issues and risks to senior staff
  • contribute to team improvement initiatives and projects, including team tools, process changes, and test automation
  • identify, manage and document defects, programming errors and operational characteristics that are inconsistent with stated requirements and design specifications
  • conduct testing to ensure the ICT service functions as per requirements
  • create test data within external software vendor environment
  • accurately record time and effort for test cases
  • allocate work to team members, using judgement to match issue complexity and staff capability
  • provide assistance and training to less experienced testers
  • support team to follow business processes and align to overall delivery outcomes
  • maintain up-to-date knowledge of ICT related legislation, policy and
  • processes and transfer knowledge to other team members
  • collaborate with stakeholders to ensure effective and timely implementation of projects
  • provide advice and assistance to external software vendors in regard to testing and development of software
  • assist with cost analysis activities as required

Senior Test Engineer – APS6

  • create and execute complex test cases on appropriate testing platforms using own in-depth technical analysis of specifications
  • create complex test data within external software vendor environment
  • review test cases from team members to ensure quality
  • develop and review test plans, test cases, task cards and supporting test data, working to the specifications provided
  • apply in-depth technical analysis, practices and procedures when designing, executing and creating test cases
  • assist with defining requirements for the test environments
  • record and analyse test results, and report any unexpected or unsatisfactory outcomes
  • contribute to team improvement initiatives and projects, including team tools, process changes, and test automation
  • identify, analyse, manage and document all defects, programming errors and operational characteristics that are inconsistent with stated requirements and design specifications
  • conduct testing to ensure the ICT Service functions as per requirements
  • create test data in vendor environment
  • monitor and manage time and effort to ensure test cases are running to project schedule and escalate any issues
  • develop staff capability through coaching, mentoring and training
  • ensure work aligns with business processes and overall delivery outcomes
  • collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure effective and timely implementation of projects
  • resolve or escalate issues as required and suggest alternative approaches
  • perform cost analysis activities as required

Test Manager – EL1

  • manage the timely delivery of testing outcomes and the quality of testing processes
  • plan, develop, and manage test cases for different types of testing at various stages of testing on appropriate testing platforms
  • liaise with project teams to ensure appropriate methodology and testing tools are used for testing processes
  • review complex test cases from team members to ensure quality
  • contribute to the approach for scripting, test data requirements gathering, and test data gathering
  • define and document requirements for test environments
  • develop and manage team improvement initiatives and projects, including team tools and process changes Test Manager
  • identify, analyse, manage and report on trends of defects, programming errors and inconsistent operational characteristics
  • conduct complex testing to ensure the ICT service functions as per requirements
  • undertake test effort estimation and manage resources to ensure project deliverables are met
  • lead and support operations of the team, including monitoring business performance, setting priorities, and managing resources and workflow
  • lead and manage staff, including overseeing the management of performance, attendance, health and wellbeing
  • develop staff capability through coaching, mentoring and succession
  • planning to increase performance, engagement and retention
  • contribute to and influence ICT strategy resolving conflicts as needed
  • monitor and manage work output and quality, against established
  • performance standards through interpretation of quality analysis and reporting
  • report on the achievement of business outcomes, key performance
  • indicators and quality assurance to manage performance
  • proactively share knowledge and expertise, and provide assistance and mentorship to less experienced colleagues
  • prepare and review a range of written material including technical and corporate documentation
  • assist with the management of finances, resources and budget requirements and issues within area of responsibility
  • collaborate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve project outcomes
  • engage and partner with other agencies and service providers to build service delivery capability
  • attend interagency meetings and forums to influence business outcomes and share information
  • encourage innovation, continuous improvement and manage and support change
  • manage team contribution to costing process
  • exercise delegation in accordance with legislation and guidelines

Test Engineer – APS5

Ability to:

Test Engineer – APS6

  • undertake analysis and draw accurate conclusions based on evidence
  • research and make decisions based on good judgement, expertise and knowledge
  • work independently under limited direction and act collaboratively
  • prioritise competing tasks and work collaboratively to deliver quality projects outcomes
  • adapt to change and uncertainty and support staff through the process.

Test Manager – EL1

Ability to:

  • mentor and guide staff learning and development
  • develop and manage a range of internal and external stakeholder relationships

  • understand the audience and context, and effectively tailor communication and communication styles
  • develop long term plans for the team and manage work in the context of business priorities
  • undertake objective, systematic analysis and draw accurate conclusions based on evidence
  • make decisions based on professional judgement, risk evaluation and in the context of the environment
  • work highly independently under broad direction and act collaboratively
  • manage competing priorities to achieve quality outcomes and project completion
  • lead change initiatives and support staff through uncertainty and the change process.
