Overview
Nericon Citrus is part of a group of industry leading citrus orchards in the Riverina region of NSW (Redlands Operations Pty Ltd). Producing export quality citrus varieties, we are part of a farming group that comprises over 1750ha of premium citrus utilising the latest advancements in technology and sound scientific based growing methods.
Role Description
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Agricultural Technician to join our friendly team full time. The Agricultural Technician works under the guidance of the Senior Agronomist to drive technical programs in relation to tree and soil health to improve production and maintain the consistency of quality meeting all standards for the export and domestic markets.
Duties
· Soil, leaf, and fruit monitoring for disease, pests, and weeds;
· Collecting, analysing, and interpreting data samples of plant, soil, and other factors affecting production to assist the Senior Agronomist in decision making for orchard nutrition and pest/disease management;
· Pest and disease mapping, monitoring, and the implementation of sound pest and disease reduction strategies based on empirical data;
· Studying and trialling new methods and products under the guidance of the Senior Agronomist to ensure there are continued improvements to orchard health, nutrient levels, soil structure, and pest/disease pressures;
· Implementation of IPM programs using science-based tools, analysis of data, and performing trials to ensure best practice;
· Delivery of a measurement-based approach to pathogen management, pest reduction, and nutrition management.
· Maintain appropriate and accurate records using farm specific apps and programs such as Safe Ag Systems and Grow Data, ensuring there is quick access to information by other staff when required;
· Use farm specific apps, such as Safe Ag Systems, as specified by Senior Management to complete tasks such as checklists, training records, procedures and policies, incident reports, and safety observations;
· Comply with internal controls and ensure regular administration activities are completed accurately and on time;
· Respond promptly to all queries regarding orchard administration and paperwork at the orchard;
· Maintain any other records as required by Senior Management
· As directed, oversee staff and contractors to ensure the company’s safety policies and quality assurance programmes are carried out;
Health and Safety Responsibilities
· Ensuring compliance with work, health and safety policies and procedures;
· Identifying risks and hazards and bringing them to the attention of the farm management team;
· Ensuring that quality assurance and environmental programs are adhered to and performed to industry “best practice”, maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for staff, contractors and other professionals and visitors;
· Actively engaging in effective training and development programs in agreement with the Farm Management Team;
· Using farm specific apps, such as Safe Ag Systems, as specified by the Farm Manager to complete tasks such as checklists, training records, procedures and policies, incident reports, and safety observations;
· Report any breaches or problems promptly to the Farm Manager or the Safety Manager;
· Ensure that all visitors and contractors to the job site are inducted and have signed in, according to Company’s policy and procedures.
Requirements for the Role
· Advance Diploma or Diploma in Horticulture, Agriculture (or similar field)
· At least 2 years’ experience working in horticulture preferably with citrus
· Strong computer/app skills
· Outstanding communication skills
· Exceptional leadership abilities
· Self-motivated and able to work effectively as part of a team
· First Aid Certificate
· Current HRW or Forklift Licence is desirable
· Current Chemical Handling Accreditation is desirable
Benefits
This position's salary is $73,500 plus superannuation depending upon experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will also be provided with a laptop computer and work vehicle.
