Pristine Oyster Farm on the Eyre Peninsula, South Australia, is seeking a dedicated full-time Aquaculture Farmhand(Quality Control) to oversee the entire oyster production process, from spat to full growth.
Qualifications required:
• Current Australian Coxswain Grade 3
• Current Australian Forklift License
• Current Australian Driver’s License
• Current First Aid Certificate with CPR
• Food Hygiene Certificate
• Return to work coordinator certification preferred.
Responsibilities:
• General oyster farming activities, including oyster loading, unloading, grading, packing and lease lines adjusting.
• Operate boats and forklifts, perform basic maintenance and refuel when required.
• Operating SED grading equipment, preparation of product for export and domestic market, as well as basic maintenance duties.
• Generate accurate and timely reports on water quality assessments to ensure the optimal conditions for our oysters.
• Maintain detailed and organized records of aquaculture activities, inventory and sales, including record keeping using miShell.
• Quality control for oysters, including inspecting oysters for size, shape, temperature, and overall quality to meet market standards.
• Carry out general housekeeping, conduct regular inspections to identify and address any cleaning or maintenance needs.
• Ensure the availability of packaging and cleaning supplies, reorder when needed.
• Develop and implement Return to Work programs and policies in accordance with legal and company guidelines.
• Conduct regular safety assessments and make recommendations for workplace safety improvements.
• Assist in administrative tasks related to export documentation and compliance.
• Facilitate engagement with prospective clients in the Asian market and participate in industry-specific trade shows to enhance our capacity for effective communication with our Asian clientele.
Skills required:
• 2 years of experience in aquaculture or a related field preferred.
• Previous experience with SED vision grader & water grader would be advantageous.
• Previous experience with miShell would be advantageous.
• Mandarin Speaking would be advantageous.
• Ability to work in outdoor and aquatic environments.
• Strong physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Working rights in Australia.
Additional Details:
• Position Type: Full-time 38 hours per week.
• Annual Salary: $73,000 AUD to $74,000 AUD per year plus additional mandatory super.
