POSITION:
Free-range Farm Mechanical Engineer

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

An understanding of the regulatory and legislative requirements relating to the manufacture of food products.

Responsibility for Occupational Health & Safety to ensure a high standard of safety, health and well being for all staff and contractors, and to ensure compliance with the Occupational Safety & Health Act 1984.

An understanding of the requirements of various quality systems and customer requirements including HACCP, SQF2000, WQA and McDonalds.

Key Tasks

Key Requirements As instructed by and in conjunction with MOBA Engineer

• Provide technical services and maintenance of electronics/electrical & mechanical equipment of MOBA farm packers, egg and manure conveyer systems & UPS systems.
• Fabrication of required items.
• Welding, skiving, greasing program
• Provide technical support, breakdown & fault analysis & troubleshooting.
• Provide technical and operation training to other technicians, fitters, team leaders and operators on site.
• Perform overall preventative and corrective maintenance on site to ensure minimum production downtime &/or loss of product.
• In conjunction with the Maintenance team, perform overall preventative and corrective maintenance schedules to other farm sites to minimise major breakdown, ensuring minimum production downtime &/or loss of product. To be completed on a rostered rotating system.
• Perform testing, commissioning and technical training on all sites.
• Perform upgrades and site integrations.
• Be on call on a rostered rotating system to attend breakdowns after normal hours.
• Assist with MOBA technical upgrades.
• General maintenance.

• Labour management; recognizing and managing employees working with/for you.
• Acquire a clear understanding of how the farm tasks, maintenance and duties affect the egg room directly.
• Communicate and discuss maintenance issues & requirements with other general maintenance team.
Training
• Assist in the training of new and existing employees in all aspects of the machinery management, inclusive of practical demonstrations to solve problems and associated production shortfalls and inefficiencies.
Cleaning/Maintenance

• To maintain the daily cleanliness of buildings, equipment and facilities to an acceptable standard including; office, meal areas, bathroom facilities, in and around collecting and packing areas, cool rooms and all surrounding areas.
• Cleaning and maintenance of machinery and buildings on depletion and restocking.
• Assist in the management of daily maintenance and stock control requirements.

Administration

• Undertake daily and weekly reporting, in the absence of the Engineer, as required.
• Attend monthly OHS Meetings.
• Assist in the preparation for Audits and the requirements.

Liaison

• You will need to be able to communicate and liaise with several entities that include: All employees, Contractors, auditors, customers, suppliers, unions. WorkSafe, Insurers, and others.

• Adhere to company policy and procedures on Bio-security. Bio-security policy includes that ‘no employee’ shall maintain an aviary, caged birds or domestic poultry at their private residence.
• Ensure all company policies are understood and adhered to.
• Participate in continuous improvement process by recommending sensible changes and communicating issues that may affect the business.
• Carry out duties in a competent, accurate, reliable and trustworthy manner.
• Seek to improve internal and external customer relationships by remaining approachable and courteous at all times.

OHS

• Motivate existing staff ensuring that safety and quality standards are maintained.
• Contribute to OSH management plans, procedures and development of new initiatives.
• Communicate with the Human Resources Coordinator in regards to safety, accident and incident reporting.
• Promote and comply with legislation, regulations, external guidance material and internal performance standards.

• Commitment to providing safe quality foods to customers, achieving this goal via the utilisation of the HACCP system.
• Responsibility to participate in quality assurance programmes and achieves ongoing improvement.
