Bilingual Community Engagement Officer

Hume Libraries is a contemporary Library Service, located on the northern fringes of Melbourne. We currently have a vacancy available for a suitably qualified Bilingual Community Engagement Officer.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Prepare and present early years programs in English and a community language (Baby Bounce, Rhyme Time, Story Time) to parents/carers and children in a wide range of community settings and appropriate Council service points.
  • Initiate and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff, preschools, childcare centres, playgroups, maternal and child health centres and other service providers.
  • Assist in the development of procedures and processes for the operation of bilingual early years programs to improve processes and meet current and future objectives.
  • Provide accurate, timely and courteous information and assistance to internal and external customers. This will include providing information on services and programs via telephone, SMS, and email, utilising all available resources.
  • To undertake administrative support to the Bilingual Engagement team.
  • Assist with developing schedules, bookings and connections to local groups and providers.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • Skills in planning, developing, and delivering engaging and entertaining early years programs in English and in a language other than English, applying a basic understanding of early language and literacy development.
  • Skills in oral and written communication with clients, other employees, and members of the public and in the resolution of minor problems.
  • High level customer service skills with an ability to deal with difficult situations and present a positive Council image.
  • Experience engaging with children, families, and community service providers 
  • Application of standardised policies, procedures, and practices in the operation of equipment which requires a limited degree of skill.
  • Knowledge of Library collections, programs, and services.

Required Certifications & Qualifications:

  • Certificate III in Children’s Services or similar, Certificate III in Library/Information Services, or equivalent on-the-job experience or training.
  •    Current Working with Children Check.
  • Current driver’s licence.
