About this opportunity
Based at Hornsby, our senior process development chemist will develop and optimize chemical processes for the manufacture of new existing cosmetic products on a large scale. You will conduct laboratory-scale experiments to determine the feasibility of new processes, and then scale them up for production, investigate and resolve any problems that arise during the production of chemical compounds, including issues related to quality, cost, and safety.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Support production personnel follow all relevant company procedures and filling instructions in consideration of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as well as Work Health & Safety (WH&S) principles to ensure products are produced to meet the required customer specification, are of a high-quality standard and are produced safely.
- Implement scale up from laboratory to pilot/fill trial and full-scale production ensuring GMP and Hygiene principles.
- Liaise with the Development Chemists and Packaging Engineer to ensure both formulations and packaging are being developed within production capabilities and identify where new equipment is required.
- Problem solve for reworking production batches and identify formulations restrictions and provide corrective actions and testing requirements.
- Assist Quality Control in the investigation of out of specification results and customer complaints.
- Update and create materials and BOM’s in SAP.
- Develop manufacturing and production processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, testing manufacturing methods and equipment, and conferring with equipment vendors when necessary.
- Identify, plan, and implement key projects to expand process and product capabilities, improve quality, reduce waste, and increase productivity, utilisation & efficiency that will result in significant business improvement and customer satisfaction.
- Support corrective actions and initiate preventive measures for any reoccurrence of non-conformities relating to process, system, and material.
- Liaise with finance and other members of the organization in assessing, tracking, and reporting the financial benefit of a Cost Saving project.
Your skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you’ll have:
- Qualifications in chemical engineering, and may have worked in a variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, and consumer goods.
- strong knowledge of chemical engineering and process design, as well as laboratory experience and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication of findings and recommendations to other team members and stakeholders.
- At least 3 -5 years prior experience in process chemist.
- Experience in Quality Management and working knowledge of Quality Management Systems
- Understanding of continuous improvement concepts including Six Sigma, Lean, value stream mapping
- Ability to respond to changing priorities.
