Role responsibilities
Participation in a structured Clinical Coding education program that covers all specialties.
Analysis of medical record content for hospital inpatient episodes and abstraction of diagnoses, procedures, external causes of injury and poisoning using ICD-10-AM and the Australian Coding Standards.
Develop a thorough working knowledge of clinical coding under the guidance of experienced Coders with the aim of meeting competency expectations with overall achievement of 85% accuracy.
Use appropriate software to facilitate code assignment and enter coded data into the Patient Administration System.
Participate in group education and continue self-education to improve knowledge and clinical coding skills.
Promote the recording of comprehensive clinical documentation for clinical coding by identifying insufficient documentation and initiating Coding Queries to clinicians.
