Yara are seeking applications for their permanent role of Process Engineering Superintendent.
Reporting to the Production Manager YPN, the Process Engineering Superintendent is responsible for ensuring conformance to the plants operating windows to ensure maximum production, efficiency, performance, availability and quality is achieved without compromising process safety, occupational safety or the environment. The role requires continuous monitoring and troubleshooting of the process, interaction with the operations personal, and close co-ordination with all stakeholders including site based, corporate and regulatory functions.
The Process Engineering Superintendent is responsible for achieving the safety, reliability (volume and energy) and financial targets of the YPN TAN Plant. They will lead the YPN process support team with performance based management and competence development, ensuring a fully functional and skilled team, prepared to technically support the YPN TAN Production team as required.
The Process Engineering Superintendent is the site responsible subject matter expert (SME) for the TAN process technology at the YPN site. As the process SME, they are responsible for providing approvals and guidance to stakeholders with regards to process engineering and plant operations in accordance with the TAN Process Technology, including but not limited to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Management of Change (MoC), Process Safety and Risk Assessment Authority (HAZOPS, LOPA’s etc.), Process Drawings (P&IDs etc) and Datasheets, etc.
Additionally, the Process Engineering Superintendent will lead improvement initiatives/projects within the YPN process support team to ensure continuous improvement initiatives are executed and a continuous improvement culture is maintained.
The Process Engineering Superintendent will:
- Lead the YPN process support team with performance based management and competence development, ensuring a fully functional and skilled team
- Achieve operational and financial objectives in compliance with Yara safety, environment and quality standards
- Ensure competency development of Process Support Team to enable quality, safe and reliable support to the operations team
- Set and monitor plant process KPI’s
- Lead improvement initiatives/projects within the process support team to ensure continuous improvement initiatives are executed and a continuous improvement culture is maintained
- Take a pro-active, lead role in the RCPS and Threat identification processes for YPN
- Lead investigations and conducts RCPS for both HESQ incidents and financial losses for YPN
- Ensures process documentation is current (P&IDs, PFDs, Datasheets etc.)
- Ensure compliance with Environmental and MHF license to operate
- Conduct audits as required
- Initiation, assessment, and review of Management of Change proposals
- Ensures production loss reporting is entered and reviewed using Yara Systems (i.e. Meridium)
- Ensure plant trip reports are prepared and approved
- Develop and review scope of works for CAPEX projects and other production related projects.
- Ensure the plant is operated within operating windows through stakeholder engagement and tools such as Alarms, Control systems, Procedures, and guidelines are current and effective
- Ensure daily, weekly and monthly production reporting in a timely manner
- Participate in RCM activities

Profile
• Degree in Chemical Engineering. Masters or Honors degree is well regarded
• Minimum of 5-10 years within a position in the Chemical/petrochemical industry, preferably in a Nitric Acid and/or Ammonium Nitrate Plant environment.
• Possess a high level of communication skills - verbal and written;
• Personal qualities of self-motivation, taking initiative and excellent analytical skills
• Competent usage of Excel Spreadsheets, Word Outlook and other M/S modules.
• Knowledge of national and international standards
• Extensive Knowledge of Management of Change systems
• Basic understanding of Account Processing and IT systems
• Fluent English (verbal and written) is essential.
