About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and organised Leading Hand – or experienced Orchard Hand looking for the next step in their career – to join our growing irrigation team.
Reporting to the Irrigation Manager, the you will support the planning and execution of irrigation and fertigation programs that align with our sustainability goals and enable optimum fresh fruit production.
You will be responsible for accurately recording data from the various collection points and systems, and reporting the results in a manner that is clear, useful and aids future planning.
Maintenance of the systems is integral to their performance, and you will be involved in planning and undertaking repairs and maintenance activities, on your own or as part of a team.
It is expected that you will be a team player and have a diverse skillset that supports your development in this area, along with a keen interest in learning.
Embracing a positive and safe workplace culture, your duties will include:
• Preparing the weekly irrigation plan in conjunction with the orchard management team
• Work with the orchard management team to identify and monitor risks, control measures and inadequacies within the irrigation infrastructure.
• Produce accurate and timely data reports, including fertigation and irrigation records, to ensure programs are being followed correctly.
• Identify and report problem areas and undertake corrective measures (including irrigation repairs) in consultation with the Irrigation Manager
• Undertake repairs and planned maintenance – Checking for leaks and flushing of the drip systems. Pump and filter troubleshooting.
• Professionally coordinate, lead and support orchard hands when they are assisting with irrigation operations.
• Gain experience in the DREAM2 irrigation management system (IMS), with a focus on creating programs and coordinating irrigation schedules that are effective and efficient.
• Develop the skills and knowledge to supervise, operate and maintain irrigation infrastructure including pump equipment.
• Adhoc orchard duties as required from time to time
About You
To be successful in the role, the following skills, attitudes and experience are considered critical:
• Committed to leading a safe work culture and implementing approved initiatives
• Experience with pressurised irrigation systems and infrastructure components
• Knowledge of drip irrigation systems, design and functionality will be highly regarded
• Agricultural experience - tree crops preferred but not essential
• Good interpersonal skills allowing for effective communication with people of varying backgrounds (written and verbal)
• Be a collaborative, results-orientated team member
• Driver’s License is required
• Computer literacy
Full training will be provided on our systems so if you have the right attitude and the drive to succeed, we can teach you the technical skills needed to thrive.
