This not-for-profit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander owned and controlled non-government health, social health and wellbeing organization has been operational for over 25 years and employs over 130 staff. At the heart of the organisation is the Primary Health Care Centre at Injinoo, an accredited General Practice, delivering services to 5 remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. These are Injinoo, Umagico, Bamaga, Seisia and New Mapoon.
About Life in the Northern Peninsular Area (NPA):
Find a new, relaxed way of life in tropical Far North Queensland, just 25km from the tip of Cape York Peninsula and 900km north of Cairns, with daily flights to Cairns being just under 2 hours, travel is a breeze.
The main centre for the 3,000 people of the five Aboriginal and Torres Strait Inland communities is Bamaga, a well serviced and close-knit neighbourhood offering residents everything you'd expect in a large country town - schools, a supermarket, hospital, post office, service station/workshop, child care services, clothing store, hotel, snack bar and bakery.
You will be dazzled by the recreational opportunities offered by the natural beauty on your doorstep. Fishing and boating are major recreational pastimes on the stunning Jardine River, and the many local coastal reefs and islands. Discover the local rivers and swimming holes as well as beautiful white sand beaches, while the nearby rainforest provides endless opportunities for walking, exploration and bird watching.
About the Opportunity:
This organisation is looking for a General Practitioner to work within a cohesive and integrated team. The General Practitioner provides a high standard of patient care whilst incorporating a holistic approach towards diagnosis and management of illness. This position will demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting health, wellbeing and disease prevention, working in collaboration with local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Workers.
About You:
To be successful in this role you will have:
Tertiary qualification in Medicine with current unrestricted specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
FRACGP or FACRRM Fellowship
Current Medical Indemnity Insurance
Experience in or a demonstrated commitment to improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes
Willingness and ability to accommodate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander values and traditions including willingness to take advice from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.
It is a condition of employment for this position that the employee be vaccinated against COVID-19 in accordance with the Workers in a Healthcare Setting (COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements) Direction.
