Job Purpose
The Dental Assistant is responsible for providing high standard chairside assistance with excellent customer service to oral health clients. The Dental Assistant is responsible for processing and sterilisation of instruments and equipment in accordance with prescribed practices and procedures.
The position operates within the Oral Health multidisciplinary team.
This position provides care to both public and private patients.

Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical support:
• Providing high standard chair side assistance to all clinicians including private practice and Smile Squad
• Prepare, maintain and manage the dental surgery and mobile dental surgery for patients to enhance efficient patient throughput in accordance with Infection Control protocol.
• Manage an adequate supply and appropriate rotation of instruments and stores items.
• Ensuring timely patient flow through while maintaining cleanliness and sterility of the dental clinic in accordance with current standards
• Processing and sterilisation of instruments in accordance with AS/NZS and National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards infection control practices
• Prepare radiographs as required • Implementation and conduction of audits to ensure practices adhere to AS/NZS and National Safety and Quality Health Service Standard guidelines
• Providing exceptional customer service to all patients
• Liaising with the reception and administrative team
• Reception duties may be required from time to time.
• Flexibility to work across varying sites.
• Other duties as required
Organisational:
• Participate in programs, meetings and activities that contribute to the ongoing improvement of the Oral Health Department.
• Participate in the organisational continuous quality improvement program and develop, monitor and review policies and procedures as appropriate.
• Participate in the performance management program including the development and monitoring of your individual work plan, regular supervision and annual performance review.
Record Keeping: • Prepare and submit reports as required;
Occupational Health and Safety • Ensure compliance with CHHA infection control policy and procedures.
• Follow and promote safe work practices, procedures and instructions as per CHHA policies and procedures.
• Perform all duties in a manner, which ensures personal health and safety and that of others in the workplace.
• Report all hazards or incidents that may cause harm.
• Undertake required training in fire and emergency evacuation procedures as required by CHHA.
• Comply with environmental procedures within CHHA
Qualifications
• Possession of a recognised Dental Assistant Certificate of accreditation, or equivalent.
Mandatory
• Experience working in general dentistry.
• Ability to demonstrate clinical competence, knowledge and understanding of required applications and procedures.
