The Role
We are seeking 6 motivated all-rounders to assist on long-line tuna fishing vessels based in Cairns, QLD. The position available is full time. Duties include, but are not limited to:
• observe all OH&S standards and deck rules as outlined in your induction and as directed by the Skipper to ensure your safety and the safety of other crew members.
• handle ropes and operate mooring equipment when berthing and unberthing.
• stand lookout watches at sea and adjust the ship's course as directed.
• assist with cargo operations using on-board equipment and stowing and securing cargo.
• patrol ship to ensure the safety of the vessel, fishing gear and fellow crew.
• perform routine maintenance and checks on deck equipment, cargo gear, rigging, and lifesaving and firefighting appliances.
• prepare lines, attach running gear and bait, and set lines into position as directed.
• haul in fishing gear and remove fish.
• gill and gut each fish, place in plastic bags and stow as directed in fish wells.
• clean down the boat and equipment as directed.
• unload fish on return to port.
• clean all decks, equipment and pilot house.
About you
The ideal candidates should have:
• A reliable positive attitude toward work with the ability to work quickly and accurately with attention to detail.
• Be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, in particular in hot and humid conditions.
• Good work ethic.
• Due to the high physical demands of these positions, workers will need to be physically fit and self-motivated.
