- Experienced Plant Engineer
- Salary: $70,000 - $85,000

Hawkes Boatyard (HBY) is a full service, independent, boatyard located in Airlie Beach, Queensland providing; Chandlery supplies and fit-outs to boat owners, antifouling solutions, hull cleaning and topside polishing services, antifouling and propspeed, as well as Industrial Ladder, Trestle and plank hire, Paint Screens with Cradle and Hardstand sites for dry-dock works.
We're currently seeking an experienced Plant Engineer to join our team full-time.
The Plant Engineer is responsible for maintaining and inspecting all equipment used in the boatyard, developing and implementing maintenance plans and scheduling protocols with supporting documentation and systems. Additionally they will ensure that all plant and equipment is maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s requirements as well as statutory requirements in a cost-effective manner.
Main duties and responsibilities include:
- Planning, coordinating, and overseeing the design, construction, modification, and maintenance of equipment and machines in the boatyard, as well as managing manufacturing activities.
- Scheduling and implementing maintenance for boatyard plant and equipment, and overseeing contractor maintenance schedules.
- Liaising with external contractors and service providers for purchasing and installing plant equipment and materials.
- Reviewing and analyzing work logs to minimize inefficiencies.
- Ensuring compliance with OH&S obligations for chemicals stored onsite through weekly execution of MSDS safety protocol.
- Designing specialized hull cleaning structures for efficient antifouling and treatment of boat hulls.
- Developing procedures, policies, and testing regimes in accordance with Australian Standards and engineering practices.
- Quarterly review of plans and budgets against capabilities to ensure efficiency.
- Routine inspection of onsite plant performance.
- Training and supervising staff and contractors in safety equipment and PPE usage.
Applicants must have at least 4 years' experience in a similar role, with sound knowledge and understanding of small watercraft engineering principles.
Additional essential qualities:
- Valid QLD driver's licence
- Ability to plan work to execute projects.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to allow root cause analysis to recommend solutions.
- Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize work.
- Strong communication skills and coordinating inputs from others
- Strong, logical problem-solving skills
- Ability to work to deadlines
The successful applicant will be offered a remuneration between $70,000 - $85,000.
